“This will be my third Soke Cup after competing in 2017 (Japan) and 2019 (Canada).
I look forward to competing in and spectating the highest level of competition, and befriending fellow karateka from around the world.
Representing our Dojo, and Australia is a huge honour and privilege that I believe everyone on the Australian team feels.
My goal for the competition is to place in the kobujutsu (weapons) black belt division."

2023 Soke cup in review
1. What was your favourite thing(s) about the whole Soke Cup experience?

2. What did you learn from the experience?
- Training leading up to the Soke Cup put me into an optimal performance state even with injury.
- Not peak energy at event but I trusted in the training. I knew I'd done the work so I could go on auto-pilot.
- Happy with Seisan. I did it with confidence and it got me into the next round.
3. If you were to do it all again, what would you do differently?
For me, I felt well prepared over the 12 months leading up to the event. I don't think training more would have helped me to achieve my goals. It was a good amount of training for the goals I had set for myself.
4. What would you say to those who might have their eye on the next Soke Cup?
- Just put in the work and trust in the plan. I've done a few Soke Cups now and each one I learn a little more. Coaches are continually evolving coaching plan which gives me more confidence in self to just follow the instructions/plan.
- Frustrated with injuries... Learn how to deal with things out of your control. Appreciate times when you are healthy and capable and work hard.
